My reflection on the meeting

On Wednesday 10th of October,2012F11 classroom I called a meeting with my secretary mr.Abdulla and two participants who are mr.Ahmed and mr.Saif. Iam the chairman of my group Khalifa Almehairbi, I started the meeting at 03:15pm with describing how serious the problem is of traffic congestion in the capital city Abudhabi to avoid conflicts in rush hours. All members worked hard the secretary mr.Abdulla  wrote lots of notes and tried his best to keep up with us and to cover every small detail, and so did the two participants they gave alot of useful ideas and I liked the best the way they argued with each other to convince each other.

In the meeting we discussed alot of ideas which works better than the other for example the idea of increasing the parking lots, do we build more buildings for parking lots which is cheaper or to build an underground parking lots which cost more but useful to use the upper space for something useful like parks and shops. In addition, we should increase the numbers of tunnels and bridges to distribute the system tunnels in side streets and bridges in main roads.

Finally we reached our purpose of this meeting and agreed on 5 solutions, I liked the work they done and their ideas specially the idea of increasing the public transportation to decrease the number of vehicles on streets and looking forward to apply this ideas.

The Chairman Khalifa Al Mehairbi opened the meeting at 14:30.

Khalifa Al Mehairbi called the meeting in order to discuss the above agenda and he started it by reminding us how serious the problem is?

1- Underground parking:

Saif suggested to build underground parking for each building or property, Ahmed objected him by mentioning that underground parking lots is costly therefore he came up with the idea of building parking building instead of it, Saif convinced Ahmed because the space above the underground parking is can be useful for something else like building facilities or another parking lots.

2- Improving the existing traffic system:

Khalifa said, how about we improve the existing traffic system by distribute the traffics and roads equally so the cars can move smoothly, moving the the residential areas outside abudhabi island for example; Khalifa city A,B, alshamkha, mohammad bin zayed and yas island etc.

3- Synchronize traffic lights:

Synchronizing the traffic lights was mentioned by saif as one of the solutions for example alkhaleej alarabi street when one traffic light opens you can drive 80km/h therefore, you will pass all signals green until you reach the end of the street to cornice st.

4- Building tunnels and bridges:

Ahmed came up with the idea to build more bridges in main streets in the middle of the main island approached with exits every two blocks to make it easier and faster for the drivers and well distributed and smooth. Also, he suggested to add more tunnels in side streets linked to the main streets, it was tested and applied in alsaada road and it works perfectly to diverge those who want to keep going in a straight line while the others need to cross the street without being conflicted with other lines.

5- Public transportation:

In addition, Abdualla said that public transportation as busses, metros, subways and trams would be useful solution to decrease the numbers of vehicles and drivers in streets as long as it was qualified under the supervision of department of transportation with a weekly maintenance for the vehicles.

In conclusion, we agreed the following:

1.increase the underground parking lots and attach it with buildings.
2.improving the existing traffic system and redistribute it with more lines.
3.synchronizing the traffic lights.
4.build a main bridge in the middle of the city attached with supplemental small bridges.
5.build more tunnels in the side streets.
6.increase the amount of transportation facilities: busses, trams, metros and subways.
